PALADIN FIELD NOTES / BETA 1.60.1.70425
WoW Forever Paladin changes from Classic
Paladin planning in Forever depends on more than copying a familiar Classic point split. Holy Shock sits earlier, Protection has several different shield and Mana effects, and deep Retribution introduces seal echoes. These notes explain those decisions using the same community snapshot as the calculator.
Snapshot: beta build 1.60.1.70425, exported 16 October 2026 and cross-checked here on 17 October. The community build catalogue describes a level-30 beta cap. The level-60 cards are theoretical plans for later progression; ordinary points begin at level 10 and share a 51-point cap.
Choose a starting point
The Paladin calculator offers two beta starters and three full-budget plans. Every card links the exact community allocation as well as its source page. Loading one replaces the current allocation and updates the share URL; it does not restrict later edits to that card’s level.
| Plan | Holy / Protection / Retribution | What the allocation actually reaches |
|---|---|---|
| Retribution Leveling Starter | 0/0/21 | The first 21 leveling points, with Seal of Command, Sanctified Judgement, Sacred Arbiter and one Vengeance rank. |
| Protection Leveling Starter | 0/21/0 | The first 21 leveling points, ending at Templar’s Bulwark. Holy Shield comes later. |
| Holy Healing Plan | 36/10/5 | Holy Shock, Divine Precision and Light’s Vigil, with early Protection support. |
| Protection Shield Plan | 0/42/9 | The complete published Protection leveling endpoint, including Holy Shield, Reckoning and Iron Creed. |
| Retribution Seal Plan | 8/8/35 | Twist of Light and its supporting Retribution talents, without Holy Shock. |
The published leveling order is the source for both starters and the full Protection plan. The popular-build catalogue also lists a Protection 0/42/7 allocation, which spends only 49 points. We chose the published 0/42/9 endpoint rather than invent two extra points and label the result a community build.
The source records calculator activity, not the raid, dungeon or PvP purpose of each plan. Community-sourced therefore means that the allocation is published and inspectable. It does not establish a best-in-slot talent setup, a tested damage ranking or an endgame healing result.
Holy: earlier Holy Shock does not remove the point trade-off
Holy Shock moves from the bottom of the supplied Classic Holy tree to row five and no longer requires Divine Favor. Its healing and enemy-damage values differ; the full-rank reference below preserves both rather than presenting a single interchangeable number.
That earlier access is useful, but it still costs points. Under this planner’s ordinary rules, Holy Shock needs 20 earlier Holy points and one point in the talent itself. Twist of Light needs 30 earlier Retribution points plus its own point. Taking both would require at least 52 points. The shared cap is 51, so the recommended deep Retribution plan does not also learn Holy Shock. Earlier talent access from a Legacy perk would not raise that final cap; this planner does not simulate those perks.
Divine Precision links to Holy Shock in the same row. Meeting the row’s point threshold is not enough: Holy Shock must also be learned. Illumination has a different dependency, requiring all Reverence ranks. The Holy plan respects both links.
Infusion of Light rewards critical Holy Shock and Flash of Light casts by shortening the next Holy Light within its window. It is not a permanent reduction to every heal’s cast time. Light’s Vigil is the later Holy milestone: the next Holy Shock on its marked target triggers the effect, with different outcomes for enemy and allied targets. The Mana refund belongs to the enemy-damage branch; the allied branch heals the target’s party. Keep those branches separate when comparing healing and offensive use.
Protection: three shields, different conditions
Shield Specialization adds Mana recovery to its shield absorption benefit. Its ranks change the chance to trigger from a block; the restored share of maximum Mana and the internal cooldown remain separate values. Reading a full-rank proc chance as a full Mana refill would misrepresent the effect.
Improved Seal of Fury instead requires Seal of Fury’s shield to be fully absorbed. Its refund is a flat amount adjusted by the attacker’s level. Do not apply that condition to every shield ability. Swift Judgement has Improved Seal of Fury as its prerequisite.
Templar’s Bulwark is an active absorb with Forbearance restrictions. Both the beta starter and the full Protection plan learn it. Only the later plan reaches Holy Shield, which requires Bulwark and the final row’s earlier-point threshold. Holy Shield provides temporary block chance and a limited number of damaging block charges; it is not a permanently active block bonus.
Reckoning distinguishes block triggers from receiving non-periodic critical strikes. The snapshot’s block cooldown does not apply indiscriminately to both branches. Blizzard’s current notes also explain stored charges and their release on the next melee swing. Iron Creed separately conditions its damage reduction on Righteous Fury being active, so check that buff when adapting the plan.
Retribution: seal echoes, judgement refunds and threat
Twist of Light rewards replacing one of its named seals with a different seal. The replaced seal leaves an echo, and the next melee attack applies that seal’s effects and consumes the echo. This is a specific sequence with a consumed effect, not unlimited simultaneous seals. The 30-level Retribution starter has not reached this talent yet.
Sanctified Judgement returns part of the judged seal’s Mana cost when its proc succeeds. That base is not your maximum Mana. Sacred Arbiter, another talent in the selected plans, makes Holy Strike refresh judgement effects on the target; the two talents solve different problems.
Champion of the Light converts Intellect into spell damage, using the current snapshot’s ratio. Do not import an older beta’s larger ratio or describe this talent as a healing bonus. Instrument of Law changes Hammer of Wrath’s cast time and reduces threat only while Righteous Fury is not active. That condition matters when adapting a damage plan into a tanking plan.
What the latest notes confirm
Blizzard’s October 15 development notes confirm the Shield Specialization Mana reduction, explain Reckoning’s stored attacks, and reduce Champion of the Light’s Intellect-to-spell-damage ratio. They also document other spell changes beyond this talent planner. The full-rank reference below uses the current export; the data changelog records the three Paladin talent descriptions updated from the preceding 70291 snapshot.
Fresh class and combined exports agree for all 50 Paladin talents and 138 ranks, and match this site’s current dataset. No positions, prerequisites, rank limits or share-code version changed for this page enhancement. Source matching and legal allocation checks are separate from independent in-game testing; we have not measured these plans on a beta character.
Keep the calculator’s rules in view
The three trees share one budget. Each higher row needs five more points in earlier rows of the same tree, and every linked prerequisite must be fully learned. Points in Protection cannot unlock a Holy row. Loading a 21-point starter leaves room for later planning; the main calculator continues to allow up to 51 points.
After editing, copy the new build link to share your allocation. Refresh restores it, and Reset clears all three trees. Codes are bound to the Paladin dataset and build version, so another class’s code or an incompatible snapshot is rejected instead of being silently rearranged. The full trees and rank references remain readable with JavaScript disabled.
